Peden-Baird-Roggers papers, 1835-1913.

This collection includes a letter written by John C. Peden as a prisoner of war on Johnson's Island in 1863 and a note by W. Garrett concerning early Kentucky politics. Peden's letter was written to his brother Moses Peden of Glasgow, Kentucky. John discusses the letters he had received, church attendance, and prison life in general. A note included with the letter reveals that John died shortly after the letter was written. The second letter was written by W. Garrett to W.B. Roggers (Rogers) of Barren County in 1842. It requests Roggers' vote in an apparently close campaign and election. Also included is an undated bill for steel and other related materials sold to Roggers. The collection also contains papers concerning William Baird and the Baird family. William Baird was originally from North Carolina but resided in Louisville in the late nineteenth century. Present in this collection is a bill from H. Crutcher to William Beard (Baird) dated 1835, a note revealing that William Baird came from North Carolina, and a funeral expense bill for Mrs. Joann Baird in 1913.
